Scots help Team GB to respectable finish in 4x400 at Euro u-23s
Inverness sprinter Jamie Bowie was in the Team GB quartet that finished sixth in the final of the men's 4x400metres relay at the European under-23 championships in Lithuania on Sunday.
Bowie ran the third leg of a Scottish dominated team that also included Patrick Swan and Kris Robertson as well as England's sole representative Luke Lennon-Ford of the Birchfield Harriers club.
The quartet clocked a solid time of 3.06.18 minutes but struggled to match the gold-medal winning team from Poland, who edged out Italy in a time of 3.03.74 minutes.
Elsewhere, at the meet in Kaunas Perthshire hurdler Eilidh Child came within a fraction of a second of winning the women's 400m hurdles but had to settle for the silver medal behind British team-mate Perri Shakes-Drayton (Victoria Park and Tower Hamlets).
The Britons set personal best times of 55.26 and 55.32 respectively, which are inside the qualifying standard required for next month's world champion-ships in Berlin.
The Aviva GB & NI team won an unprecedented 18 medals in their most successful European Under-23 Championships ever finishing second in the medal table and second equal with Germany in the points table.
