Scots ready to set the standard at Montain and Ultra Distance Championships
Team manager Adrian Stott insists his Scottish charges are chomping at the bit for the kick off of the inaugural Commonwealth Mountain and Ultra Distance Championships on September 17-20.
Former world mountain running champion Angela Mudge - from Carnethy HRC – will be one of Scotland’s brightest hopes at the Keswick event along with Orkney’s ultra-distance specialist William Sichel.
Athletes will compete in four separate events across the two disciplines; mountain races (uphill only and uphill/downhill), a 100K-road race and a 24-Hour event.
And Stott – team manager for the 100K and 24-Hour teams – revealed the Scottish contingent can’t wait to get to the Cumbrian event.
“Ever since the announcement of the Commonwealth Ultra Distance and Mountain Running Championships early in 2008, Scottish ultra runners were excited about the event,” said Stott.
“In the last 12 months, seven Scottish athletes have represented Great Britain in Ultra Distance Championships.
“All of these, along with the other Scots who have striven for and achieved the selection criteria, will now be proudly donning their Scottish vests at these inaugural championships.”
And David Armitage, the Hill Running Convenor, added:
“This new event offers an excellent opportunity to keep Scottish vests to the fore in international mountain running.”
