Scottish thrower Mark Dry aiming to smash his coach's national record
Hammer-thrower Mark Dry has vowed to strip coach Chris Black of his Scottish record once and for good when he begins his Commonwealth Games preparations at the turn of the year.
Dry came within five metres of Black’s national mark of 75.40m in August when he threw 70.81m and became the first Scot since his mentor in 1983 to break the 70m barrier.
The 21-year-old effort ranked him second on the Scottish all-time list and Dry admitted Black’s long-standing record must go sooner rather than later.
“The record is the target for me next year – it is more a personal thing, not that I want to wipe his record off, because it is an honour to take my coach’s record,” said Dry.
“I respect the record but it has been there for far too long. It is a shame that there has been nobody between myself or Chris that has got it. I want to be the man to change it so we shall see how it goes.”
