Edinburgh Wolves suffer mauling at hands of Manchester Titans
The Edinburgh Wolves lost their second successive game at home at the weekend, losing 34-6 to the Manchester Titans. The undefeated Titans limited the home side to a solitary defensive touchdown, with rookie linebacker Luke Jeacock, returning a fumble for the score.
The first half effectively killed the game off, with the Titans scoring from the opening kick-off in a precursor to what was to follow in the opening period. Hollyoaks star Ricky Whittle, who plays Calvin Valentine in the soap, returned the opening kick for the first touchdown, proving in a stroke that his appearance was on merit.
Edinburgh coach Don Edmonston said he was impressed with the Titans. "They are a big, physical squad and there is no denying the better team won,” he said.
“Had we cut out our mistakes and penalties we probably would have made that score line a lot closer. But on the day Manchester were well drilled, worked hard and made it difficult for us to reach our objectives."
He then said of soap star Whittle: “Some have said he's only playing for a publicity stunt, but that lad can play, he's got speed and moves and he is a credit to the Titans."
